It's a freeday (free-friday) night, not Friday the 13th but Friday the 31st actually :) So today I'd like to review the comparison between Make Up For Ever HD Foundation and Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Foundation, one is high-end product while another is drugstore product. Actually I want to review both since many many months ago but some laziness and business are slower my writing mood #sigh. O'ya in fact, I seldom wear foundation for daily use, more often use them on my clients :)...
PRICE
******
Revlon has more affordable price compared with Make Up For Ever (Revlon is about $17, while Make Up For Ever about 2,5 times more expensive)
*****************
Since Revlon is a cream foundation so it has thicker consistency. If you have dry skin, I really don't recommend you to use Revlon Creme foundation, it dries quickly and gives matte look. This foundation is suitable for you who have oily blemished skin since it contains Salicylic Acid that's great for acne.
Make Up For Ever is a liquid foundation which has much lighter texture. It doesn't dry quickly which makes it easier and smoother to blend (at least you have enough time to blend). Make Up For Ever HD Foundation gives you satin, sheer and flawless look. This foundation is suitable for you who have perfect normal to dry skin.
PACKAGING
************
Revlon comes in a heavy and thick glass jar container and it's pretty heavy (Well, I don't think It's a good idea brings it for traveling). While Make Up For Ever comes in slimmer glass container and more lightweight (travel friendly).
HYGIENE**********
I personally don't really like Revlon packaging, the jar is not suitable for sanitary cause it can make bacteria spreading. Make Up For Ever comes with a pump, ensuring the packaging is more hygienic.
******************
Revlon claims to have 24 hours wear, in my (really) oily skin this is the longest lasting foundation I've ever used without any touch-ups, awesome! This foundation stays nice on my skin for about 6 hours throughout the day (while other foundations could only stay for only 1-2 hours). This is the best foundation for oil control!
Many beauty gurus on Youtube use Make Up For Ever HD Foundation but I personally don't think it's suitable for me. The staying power is only 1 hour on my oily skin (with primer base applied) that makes me have to touch-ups over and over again, and that's quite annoying.
COVERAGE & OXIDATION
**************************
Both give medium coverage but Revlon is better!
I use medium-beige shade (no 250) for Revlon foundation, this shade is really matching my skin tone, just like the second skin! Unfortunately since the foundation is oxidized, then my skin immediately turns darker right after it's applied :( I forgot about the oxidation thing when buying this product. Lisa Eldridge - my fav beauty guru on Youtube always says, choose two shade lighter than your real skin tone when buying foundation that's oxidized, so that you can generate shade that really really matches your tone.
I use shade in no 140 for Make Up For Ever, actually it's two shade lighter than my skin tone. The beauty assistant who chose it for me and well I can count on her now! Since the foundation is oxidized and turns darker after applied, the shade then just becomes really matching with my skin tone! well okayyy..next time, I have to do some tests first on the counter regarding this oxidation thing.
Revlon Whipped Creme Foundation |
Make Up For Ever HD Foundation |
I wonder why imported foundation is mostly oxidized (oxidized = immediately darker after applied on skin), my consideration says maybe because the target market is Caucasian women who are longing for tanner skin so the producers create oxidized foundation. It's different in Indonesia, where many women compete to have fairer skin (women with white skin are considered "pretty" here). Scarcely do we find oxidized thing to local Indonesian products. The shade that's written on the packaging, that's the exact shade that will appear on your skin. Even the local foundations here are added "whitening" benefit to attract more customers. Yeah indeed...we're only human...especially women...never get satisfied with our appearance :)
REPURCHASE?
**************
Revlon Whipped Creme Foundation: definitely yes, great for oily skin, it's worth a try!
Make Up For Ever HD Foundation: ummhhh I don't think so, not suitable for my oily skin and expensive, sorryyyy....
Hope my review helps :)

ReplyDeleteVery helpful, thank you! I have oily skin and I'm looking for a drugstore foundation with long stay power :) that also has coverage.
ReplyDeleteIs the 250 medium beige a yellow based? I've read some reviews that claimed it left a grayish cast? I have a lot of red on my skin especially in the winter I want to cover up with a warm based foundation.
